How to Water Your Plants Properly

It's very important to know how to water your plants properly. First of all, you need to know the amount of water a specific plant species requires. The next thing you need to know is the best way to perform watering.

Other important factors include growing conditions (for example, container plants need more water than garden plants), soil type, irrigation technique, water quality, and more.

There are many different watering techniques you might want to apply. Keep in mind that some of these methods can bring more harm than good. Improper and inadequate watering can damage your plants or even kill them, so it's important to know how to do it properly.

Here are some quick tips on how to water your plants properly:

1. Water the Roots

You should always water the roots, because this is where the water is needed. You should never water other parts of the plant, especially not the leaves. To reach the roots, you need to water near the ground where roots are located.

2. Localize Watering

You should never water "all over the place". That will only waste the water and it may not help your plant. Localize watering to the appropriate areas and move on to the next plant.

3. Different Watering Methods

Hose watering is a great choice for outdoor plants because it's easy to target the water flow. Make sure to always direct the water to the base of the plant. Avoid bucket watering because it's rarely effective. When you use the bucket the water can't penetrate the soil to the acceptable level. This method can be effective for applying liquid fertilizer.

4. Try Drip-Irrigation

Drip-Irrigation systems are very effective and they save a lot of water. These systems manage target watering so they deliver the water where your plant needs it the most. One downside to this method is that it tends to be costly. However, it's one of the best watering methods and it saves you a lot of time.
