What does a girl have to do to find a cute storage bin? I want one to corral the kids’ toys in the living room, but I don’t want the bins to look like a toy box. I have been searching high and low to no avail. Luckily BlogHer is chocked full of fun crafty DIY options. If you can’t find the bin you want, make your own.
Did I mention I just moved? Ya, I’m sinking in cardboard boxes over here. Enter the Frugal Babe and her post on recycling a box into a fabric covered bin. I could quit trying to pawn the boxes off on other movers via Craig’s List and start making custom storage bins.
From The Trenches of Mommyhood comes another great recycled cardboard box idea – cover the box in Duck Tape. No, not the silver Duct Tape at Home Depot, the cute stuff at the craft store. Don’t even get me started on the washi tape options!
I’ve always had a soft spot for these woven baskets by Pippa Patchwork. I'm a sucker for anything colorful. I can see a jumbo version wrangling train tracks or playmobil in style.
Felicity from Crafty Modern had this to say about her bins: “I got tired of hunting for the right kitchen bin for my dish towels (and I'm not big on baskets). So I made one that I think fits the bill: quirky, great colors, functional.” Girl, I hear ya.
Another option is a good old fashioned basket. I could not of course leave it a natural color. I’m thinking spray paint and stencils. Chelsea from Making Home Base gives me a good jumping off point.
Ahh, I feel much better don’t you? That hopeless feeling I was having before this of never finding a living room worthy toy box has now vanished. There is now hope and creative inspiration left in it’s place. Now let me go delete that Craig’s List posting for free moving boxes so I can keep them for myself.
