Colorful and Kitschy Sand Art Terrarium

I love terrariums.  They are kitschy, fun and an easy way to add a little green to your home.  In this case they add not only green, but a whole rainbow.  Terrariums with plain brown sand and dirt are a total snooze, bust out the colored sand and really make your plants pop.  While your at it find something fun, like say a vintage nut chopper, to use as your terrarium.

You will need sand, an air plant and something to use as your actual terrarium.  I had a good day at the thrift store and found some fun vintage nut choppers.  I painted one and made it into a Valentine's Day decoration and decided to convert the second one into a terrarium.

You want to make sure you get a plant that will fit in your container.  Once you have your plant remove it from the dirt and place it in your container.

Next pour you sand into the container.  Make mounds by tilting the jar.  You can make thin or thick bands of colored sand.  Create any pattern you want.  I had so much fun making mine the kids wanted to make their own.

You don't even need a plant in the jar, the sand alone looks awesome.  Put your new terrarium in a sunny spot and enjoy.

Got some sand left over?  Why not flock a figurine for Valentine's Day.  Pop over to my blog Naughty Secretary Club for the full tutorial.
