I heard this on NPR a couple days ago: According to neuroscientists, the world's happiest man is a Buddhist monk (and molecular geneticist and confidant of the Dalai Lama) named Matthieu Ricard.
He says you can train your brain to be happy through meditation - just like you can train your body with weights.
Neuroscientists studied lots of people while meditating and found that Ricard's gamma wave production (linked to learning, memory, attention and consciousness) were so high that they'd never been reported before in scientific literature.
At the time his brain was "wired up" to be measured, he was meditating on compassion.
