"If I work outside the home, will it harm my child?" This is a question I get asked all the time. I've always pointed to research and not my own personal opinion. Studies have shown that if a mom feels comfortable with her decision, no matter if it's being at home full time, working part-time, or working full time outside of the home, there's really no difference. The key aspect is maternal comfort with the decision.
A new study from Columbia University adds more evidence and showed that the children of working moms don't suffer ill effects. This was a long term study from infancy to first grade on over 1,000 children. Every mom wants to do what's best for her child. Sometimes working outside the home is not a choice, but a necessity. Sometimes it's a source of guilt. This may help lessen some of those concerns.
