The Science of Junk Food Addiction

Junk Food is truly addictive. There is no doubt about it. I definitely do everything in my power to not have any around the house. When hosting a party, I'll try to find healthier alternatives to junk food like pita chips and hummus as an example. But, it's not always easy to bypass these foods, especially if you go to someone's home where this food is readily available.

Some interesting points that this article brings up are excellent. First off, the cycle of addiction when it comes to these types of foods is tremendous. Certain foods, i.e., processed foods cause one to have cravings that are hard to control. Not to say that they can't be controlled, but why tempt yourself even more with eating these processed foods when you can safely stave off temptations by eating before going out and drinking plenty of water.

Lastly, as the article points out, "The best news is that good food choices—like bad ones—are self-sustaining. When we eat mindfully and healthfully, we get better nutrition, control blood sugar spikes, and reap countless other benefits. As a result, we feel great and start to crave the nutrient-dense foods that will keep us energized throughout the day." Happy Monday and Happy eating....
