Let’s see…what’s the biggest PROBLEM with the holidays? Is it the stress of all the gatherings? That we spend too much money with the endless shopping list? Is it the traveling from place to place that dampens our spirit? Or…wait….perhaps it is the guilty holiday hangover we have once the New Year comes around!
I don’t know what it is for you, but personally, I have reached the end of the holiday season in the past and just couldn’t wait for the parties to end—for the pressure to put more food and drink in my mouth to come to a halt—to stop indulging and recuperate from the Thanksgiving to New Years stretch.
Here’s the thing. I LOVE THE HOLIDAYS! Especially the week before and the week of Christmas. There is something about the air, the sentiment…just that feeling that I get every year at that time. (Well, and I have to admit, my birthday falling within those dates makes them even more beloved to me!) While I adore this time of year more than any other, by the end, I am ready to call it quits.
I am issuing a challenge to you to make something new this holiday season—make a MOVE! Instead of focusing only on making cards, gifts and the such, make a COMMITMENT TO MOVE. Make that your new tradition!
Let’s reach the finish line without the desperate gearing up to once again enter ‘the battle of the bulge’. Sure, we will turn the corner of the New Year with some self improvement goals in mind, but why not set ourselves up for success!?
And I do NOT mean that we should avoid the merry meals, special sweets and cheery cocktails all season! Quite the contrary. I love all of that. But if we are going to partake, we had better perform—physically I mean.
Let’s MOVE, Ladies!
I know, I know—you are already BUSY this time of year; how on earth will you be able to include your workouts too, especially if you never did them in the first place?……well, dare I remind you that every time of year comes with excuses?
Set all excuses aside and GET OUTSIDE… for some nice brisk walks! Do some of those video games that get you moving and grooving with your family, plan to play charades instead of sitting during that party you are hosting…make it simple…JUST MOVE.
I will break it down for you:
Eat More + Sit More = Weight gain, sluggishness, muffin tops and guilty hangover
Eat More + Move More = Weight maintenance, improved fitness, better energy, optimism
So, you see, I am not saying that this is the time to set your sights on weight loss or any kind of dieting (in fact, I NEVER recommend dieting!). But, this is a time of year for HEALTHY CHEER! You cannot escape the festivities, nor would you want to. But you can escape bulging at the seams simply by moving more.
