Gestational diabetes and weight loss
I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 24 weeks. It was a surprise. My third pregnancy and this time I have GD??? I did the diet for 2 weeks but my doctor didn't like the fasting numbers I was getting. My body wasn't doing what it needed to overnight. So i went on a little white pill. Combined with my diet it seems to be doing the trick.
I eat...trust me...I eat. I even sneak in a cookie every once in a while. If the kids are having ice cream desert then I take a spoonful, but that's all. Just a taste...you know because this is what happens when your favorite ice cream is still in the house.
After a full month on the diet I have lost 5 lbs. I'm not happy about it. It was not and is not my intention. In total I have gained 8 lbs in this pregnancy, so I'm on the plus side in overall weight gain. But typically I'd be overjoyed with a 5 lbs weight loss.
The silver lining here...this diet has made me realize how carb heavy my diet truly is. Being conscience of my carb intake has been eye opening. It doesn't help that my husband is a carb lover too. Tonight's dinner was a big steak (we shared), mashed potatoes (I had 2 tablespoons), and salad. My blood sugar levels were on target. My stomache was full.
My kids went to bed and I did steal a cookie with abotu 4 oz of milk.
Clearly my body doesn't need the carbs that I was inhaling before. Maybe my surprise baby is already teaching me a lesson about life??? Maybe she's saving my life???
Gestational diabetes was not a fun diagnosis, but it turns out I'm not all that bummed because I think there is much good to come from it.
Now if only we could figure out what to do about this Restless Leg Syndrome!!!!
