By now, most people are familiar with the cult like obsession that is SoulCycle. SoulCycle studios are popping up everywhere, but for the city dwelling millennial who want out of the gym and take some time to clear their minds, try new workouts, and have a little fun, fitness retreats have become wildly popular.

The latest fitness retreat, Surf Yoga Beer (I know, what is not to love in that name) is the brainchild of former SoulCycle instructor and fitness expert, Mantas Zvinas. Surf Yoga Beer hosts retreats around the world in places like Nicaragua, Mexico, and even Belize. Most of the retreats combine yoga classes, meditation, surf lessons, delicious local food, beach boot camps, and of course unlimited beer.

Back in the day, before I became a mom, traveling was something I was passionate about (I still am, but these days its more watching the travel channel than trekking to exotic locals), and many of my friends and colleagues still are. Surf Yoga Beer provides a way for young people to visit exciting locations while challenging themselves mentally and physically and unwinding from the grind of the hustle and bustle of their everyday lives.

Surf Yoga Beer is also a great way to get into fitness. The variety of workouts can help you figure out what works best for you and the trainers are top notch so they can help point you in the right direction. You don’t have to even be in great shape to hit one of these retreats, but you’ll most likely leave totally transformed.

The last element that really makes Surf Yoga Beer special is the social aspect of the retreats. I can’t remember the last time I made a personal connection with someone in my Soul Cycle or Pure Barre class, but Surf Yoga Beer makes socialization part of the experience. Offering fun day trips like zip-lining or ATV tours and evening cocktails with dinner makes meeting new friends easy peasy.

For more information or to book your own life changing fitness retreat check out their upcoming offerings. If leaving your comfort zone for a week isn’t quite in the cards for you this year, you can also check out local bootYcamp classes in New York City.
