Holy cow, how did I let so many days go by without doing a DietBet update? In case you missed my first few updates about the DietBet, you can read them here:
Starting Weight: 143.6 pounds
Current Weight: 137.8 pounds
Total Weight Lost: 5.8 pounds
What I ate:
Breakfast: fresh juice with swiss chard, fennel, cucumber, apple, carrots, ginger, and oranges - 453 calories
Snack: 3 bananas - 363 calories
Lunch: grapes, another banana, and a mango - 376 calories
Snack: grape tomatoes and a couple of dates - 90 calories
Dinner: zucchini and sweet potato pasta with a cheesy walnut sauce that was awesome! - 629 calories
TOTAL calories: 2,049
For my breakfast juice, I juiced the oranges separately with my citrus juicer and then added them to the juice I made with the other ingredients because I didn't think it would be sweet enough. I was wrong. I tasted the other juice before adding the orange juice to it and it was delicious! But I had a whole cup of orange juice already so I just went ahead and added it anyway. I should have just drank the two juices separately.
My dinner was also AMAZING! I can't wait to make it again and post the recipe. Seriously, it's the best raw meal I've had so far! The whole time I was eating it I was thinking, "I should slow down and enjoy this more," but I couldn't bring myself to put the fork down.
Exercise: ran for 60 minutes on the indoor track at the gym but I didn't count how many laps I did so I'm not sure what my total distance was.
Sleep: I finally had the lights out by 10:00 again!
Water: I don't think I had enough water when I got home from work. I struggle with remembering to drink water when I'm at home.Friday:
What I ate:
Breakfast: 4 bananas - 484 calories
Snack: 1 pint of blueberries - 177 calories
Lunch: 3 bananas - 363 calories
Dinner: huge ass salad with beets, carrots, and fennel - 335 calories
Snack: 1 tsp peanut butter
TOTAL calories: 1,483
I finally remembered to take a picture of one of my salads! The bowl that it's in is supposed to be a serving bowl but it's the bowl I regularly use to eat my nightly salads. It took me about 45 minutes to finish this one.
Exercise: None. I babysat my nephews that night so I didn't have time for a run or workout. It was about time for me to take a day off anyway.
Water: I did great! I had to make a point to stop drinking water by a certain point so that I wouldn't have to get up and pee in the middle of the night!
Sleep: I didn't get home from my brother's house until 1:00 in the morning but I was able to sleep until almost 9:30 so I still got a full night's sleep!Saturday:
What I ate:
Breakfast: 3 bananas - 363 calories
Snack: fresh squeezed juice with carrots, apple, fennel, cucumber, ginger and swiss chard - 319 calories
Lunch: persimmons, mango, and nectarine - 311 calories
Dinner: beet, fennel and carrot salad, and a banana, peach, kale and spinach smoothie, both from Juice Land
Dessert: another smoothie from Juice Land!
Saturday night we met up with our friends's Alex and Daniel to go bowling. Ross and I stopped at Juice Land on our way to grab some dinner/smoothies since it was just a couple of blocks from the bowling ally an we didn't do our usual date night on Friday night. We bowled three games and I did terrible - 75, 68, and 106. The 106 wasn't too bad but I came in dead last the other two games.
After we finished bowling they all wanted to stop and get some frozen yogurt. Rather than feel bad for myself and sulk because I can't have frozen yogurt I asked Ross if we could swing by Juice Land again and I would get another smoothie to drink while they all ate their froyo. I am completely in love with Juice Land and have yet to have something there that I didn't like!
Exercise: 60 minutes of strength training at the gym
Sleep: I didn't do too bad - I think it was around 10:30 when I turned off the lights and got up around 7:00 on Sunday.
Water: I don't remember...Sunday:
What I ate:
Pre-run breakfast: 2 bananas
Breakfast: 4.5 pounds of watermelon - 612 calories
Lunch: grapes, 2 bananas, a nectarine, and some kombucha
Dinner: big green salad, corn and tomato salad, raw pea and broccoli salad, raw cranberry coleslaw
Dessert: Banana ice cream
We had a big family dinner at my parents' house to celebrate some family birthdays and I brought my own green salad as well as a corn and tomato salad to share. There also happened to be two other raw dishes that were really good! I didn't have too much of them because the dressings they were made with had olive oil in them, but I couldn't resist trying them!
I brought my Vitamix and some frozen bananas to my parents' house with me so I could make some banana ice cream for myself to enjoy while everyone else was eating cake. After dessert was over everyone else was grumbling about how full and miserable they were but I felt great - my ice cream was completely satisfying and I didn't feel like I had missed out on anything!
Exercise: Ran 10 miles. I ran out of water at mile 8.6 and it was really starting to get hot outside. I knew that it wasn't smart for me to finish my run without more water but I was too far from home. So, I did something completely out of character for me. I saw a man standing in his front yard and I asked him if I could have some water.
I expected to just get some water from his garden hose but he was a real doll and grabbed me a cold bottle of water from his fridge. I must have thanked him about 50 times!
Sleep: Went to bed around 11:30 I think and slept until 9:00! It was heavenly.
Water: Still drinking lots!Monday:
What I ate:
Breakfast: orange juice and a banana - 258 calories
Lunch: 4 pounds of cantaloupe - 616 calories
Snack: leftover corn and tomato salad, a few dates, and a blueberry/strawberry smoothie - 480 calories
Dinner: Vitamix tortilla soup and some grapes - 423 calories
Dessert: banana ice cream and a giant organic peach - 343
TOTAL calories: 2,122
Instead of adding the corn, tomatoes, avocado, and cilantro to the blender and mixing it up at the end, I just added some of my corn and tomato salad to my bowl and stirred up up since it already had all of those ingredients in it. Delicious.
Exercise: 30 minutes on the rowing machine an hour and 20 minutes of strength training with Lynn at the gym.
Water: I peed a lot yesterday so I must have been doing something right.
Sleep: Not too bad - I turned off the light a little after 10:30 and then got up around 6:30. I did have to get back out of bed around 10:45 to help Ross find the butter I had bought at the store earlier that day. I was incredibly annoyed at first but it turns out he couldn't find it because I left it in my trunk. Womp womp.
So, I'm 16 days into eating a low-fat raw vegan diet and I still love it! My energy is great, I love the way my body looks, I feel strong in the gym, and my running is better than it was two weeks ago. I know that I originally committed to doing this for the length of the DietBet (four weeks) but I think I'm going to continue it right up until we go to Hawaii, which will be a total of six weeks. I may allow myself to eat a small amount of cooked vegan food on our Friday night date nights once the DietBet is over, but that will be my only exception. I'll keep you guys update on how it's going!
