This year the American Heart Association is making it easier than ever to get healthy and get walking! The time is now! Gather your family, friends and coworkers and take your first steps towards establishing an active and healthy lifestyle. Here is my favoite video explaining how exercise is the single best thing you can do for your health.
- Lowers blood pressure
- Lowers cholesterol
- Helps shed puounds
- Lowers fatigue
- Improves mood, and
- And as an added benefit decreases the risk of some cancers.
In celebration of National Walk Day, the American Heart Association has teamed up with Olympic Gold Medalist Jennie Finch to raise awareness for a multi-year, nationwide goal aimed at encouraging Americans to collectively burn 1 billion calories by the year 2020.
Starting today, the American Heart Association will count the calories burned by individual walkers at Heart Walks across the country and add them to the "Billion Calorie Count-Up"total. Calories collected at Heart Walks across the country will be tallied and reported on the "Big Ticker" counter for the "Billion Calorie Count-Up" on November 7, 2012, which is National Eating Healthy Day.
To take part in the "Billion Calorie Count-Up," visit www.heartwalk.org to sign up for an American Heart Association Heart Walk in your area.
