Depression can make you feel empty, sad and irritable. You may find yourself not enjoying fun activities or avoiding the people whom you love. When dealing with the symptoms of depression, it is important to be proactive and resist the urge to withdraw from the outside world.
Here are my 3 best tips for fighting depression:
1. Exercise on a daily basis (stretching counts!). Exercise is one of the most effective means of managing anxiety and depression. If possible, work out in a social environment (gym, popular walking trail).
2. If you feel that you are becoming depressed, you must get out of your house IMMEDIATELY. Social isolation ALWAYS worsens depression and anxiety. Where should you go? Go to your library, go for a walk, go to a local Starbucks. Any kind of social experience will boost your mood.
3. Talk to a therapist. It is proactive and intelligent to seek treatment for your problems. Depression is easily treated if caught in the early stages – don’t delay!
