It's that time of year again. School is out, the temperatures are rising, and suddenly you hear the siren call of soil and seed packets. Are you a backyard gardener? With the locavore and sustainable food movements growing, backyard gardens are more popular than ever. Even our First Lady has a veggie garden in the back yard of the White House.
When I was a kid, I was hauled out of bed on a Saturday morning to weed my dad's massive garden. My younger sisters were also forced to pick up a hoe. Predictably, we hated it, and cried every time we saw a worm. Today we can't get enough of our backyard gardens, and pictures of the growing greens are texted back and forth every weekend. I planted honeydew melons for the first time this year; I hope they thrive.
How about you? Are you itching to get those tomato seedlings into the ground, or do you still prefer to get your produce the old-fashioned way (at the local supermarket)? Tell us what you are growing on this week's opinion poll!
