This is the weekend to decide which pies to make for the holiday -- if you haven't already. I know I'm going to make my cranberry-walnut pie and some sort of appetizer pie (still working on that one). But two pies is simply not enough for 18 guests (my in-laws are saints), and I still want to flex my pie muscles -- which one of these more unusual pies should I try?
Dorie Greenspan's Thanksgiving Twofer Pie: FoodBlogga says of this one, "If you bake one pie this Thanksgiving Day, make it Dorie's Greenspan's Thanksgiving Twofer Pie. Two of Thanksgiving's most cherished pies, pumpkin and pecan, are gloriously united to create a unique spiced-laced, sticky-sweet, nutty, pumpkin-y pie." YUM.
Pomegranate White Chocolate Mousse Pie: Sugar Crafter whipped up this lovely pink pom pie, which I think I'll like because of the tart pomegranate juice base.
Bacon and Bourbon Pecan Pie: No Recipes invented this one, which not only has bacon on top but incorporates pulverized bacon into the crust. Too weird? Is any application too weird for bacon?
Quince and Apple Pie: Half Baked Baker says, "Although quinces have been around for centuries, they are a relatively new discovery for me. They have begun to pop up recently in our local markets so I thought I'd give baking with them a try. Who doesn't want to try the 'fruit of love'?"
Chocolate Ginger Ganache Pie: Suz of You Can't Eat What? made this dark, rich, truffly pie. I think it's a good complement to the traditional, and the kick of ginger brings an autumnal feel.
Salted Caramel Pumpkin Pie: Baking Bites makes use of Trader Joe's salted caramel (I support that 100%) in this twist on tradition.
