I have a very soft spot for muffins. They are so easy to make that muffins were the very first thing I taught myself how to cook -- yet people think well of you for doing it from scratch. They make the house smell good, and you can whip them up at night, grab one in the morning and eat it on the commuter train. Plus, my family always called the kneading thing that cats do with their paws "making muffins," so they have a whiff of nostalgic cuteness to them (though please don't knead the actual muffins --in fact, they should be mixed as little as possible).
And then, of course, there's this (warning: racy muffin entendres ahead):

- David Lebovitz made bran muffins from the recipe by Nancy Silverton of La Brea Bakery.
- I love the look of these savory cheddar-chive muffins by Sugarcrafter.
- Amy at Poor Girl Gourmet has a ridiculously good-looking recipe for lemon-blueberry muffins
- ChristineMM at The Thinking Mother made French breakfast muffins that taste like a crumb cake and come from a traditional Maine recipe.
- Fruity muffins are their own tradition. I'm saving White on Rice Couple's ginger-peach muffins for the summer. Yum.
- Zucchini muffins are another classic, and Fat Free Vegan has a healthy and holiday-appropriate recipe for green St. Patrick's Day zucchini muffins.
- And I found the ultimate classic chocolate-chip muffins on Pioneer Woman's Tasty Kitchen site.
The great thing about muffins is that the varieties are endless -- and a lot of BlogHers have experimented with their muffins. (And not just in college, to quote the SNL skit above.) Behold the results:
- Maggie at Smashed Peas and Carrots puts Cheerios in her recipe -- it's a double breakfast meta-muffin!
- Mindinka of Mindinka's Moments created a sweet-savory maple-sausage cheddar breakfast muffins that remind some tasters of a fancy McGriddle.
- At her own blog, Kalyn made some muffins made out of stuffing that I would like to think were created specifically for my palate. Stuffing muffins: Fun to say, fun to eat.
- I think this experiment looks especially successful: Clotilde at Chocolate & Zucchini's raspberry muffins with cacao .
- Susan at Foodblogga puts red grapes in muffins and says, "Oh, yeah" of the result. (In my head, I hear the "Oh, Yeah" song from Ferris Bueller's Day Off when I read this. A good muffin will do that.
