Why don't we ever have cheese puffs? It makes no sense because we all love them. Oh wait, I know why we don't have them -- because not enough restaurants offer them. We certainly haven't made them ourselves. I've never even considered it. Silly since Hilah says I can totally do this.
I think the last time I had cheese puffs was when TW, Michelle Belle and I were in Chicago to visit the Museum of Contemporary Art -- maybe two years ago? No, it was three years ago when Michelle surprised us by coming "home" for my birthday. We got a late start and went to Chess Records first. We found ourselves on Michigan Ave way past lunch and we were starving. We hadn't planned a lunch stop so we wandered around looking for some sort of restaurant that might please all of us. Surely there would be something in Water Tower Place that might work. Floor by floor, we searched and we were having no luck. It was super crowded and the food choices were slim, (they're better now, for those coming to Chicago for BlogHer '13).
Happily, we found ourselves at Mity Nice. And mighty nice doesn't really do justice to their cheese puffs. Best cheese puffs EVER. I even found another blogger who agrees with me -- check out Tiffany Rebecca: Life in Squares (#7). And, I just discovered they were gluten-free. Who knew? Sheesh. We ate baskets and baskets of them.
And now, I'm craving cheese puffs. I really think these should be on our Christmas dinner menu. Or maybe we should have them for New Year's since the kids will be gone and that means... more for me!
Have you made cheese puffs? And, do you call them Gougères?
