How BlogHer's Celebrating Vegetarian Month

As Elisa Camahort noted in her terrific interview earlier this month with author and activist Terry Walters, October is World Vegetarian Awareness Month. We're celebrating all month long with some special features, and I wanted to introduce you to all of them so you can follow along as we go.

You're already familiar with our weekly Meatless Mondays series, which is written by Kalyn Denny of Kalyn's Kitchen. We've incorporated that series into the celebration, of course.

On Tuesdays, we're featuring a vegan recipe, like last week's vegan makeover of Trader Joe's onion dip.

Next up each week this month will be Technique Thursday, when we'll share a technique with you that will help you better prepare and cook vegan or vegetarian meals. We started that series with a post on how to safely wash vegetables and fruits after you bring them home from the store.

On Saturdays, we'll celebrate vegan and vegetarian cookbooks with posts that review interesting resources you might want to check out. Today, that series kicked off with a spotlight on a review of a great book for vegan and vegetarian hikers and campers.

I hope you'll celebrate right along with us this month, whether your chosen diet includes animal products or not! And please share your favorite vegan or vegetarian recipes, techniques and cookbooks all month long in post comments, on Twitterwww, or on Facebook.
