Healthy Shamrock Shake

One of my favorite treats around St. Patrick’s Day is a Shamrock Shake!  I love McDonald's delicious minty milkshake but each one has over 500 calories and a ton of chemicals and preservatives in it! So, I came up with a  healthier version of this shake that you can feel good about eating. You can’t even tell this recipe has no ice cream! This shake is also a great way to trick your body into eating kale! I don’t know about you, but I still can’t get used to the taste of kale no matter how healthy it is for me.

To make this healthy shamrock shake you will need:

  • 2 frozen bananas

  • 2 tbsp. agave, maple syrup or honey (I used a maple syrup/agave blend)

  • 1-2 handfuls of kale (make sure you remove the stem in the middle or else it will leave a bitter taste)

  • 1/8 tsp. peppermint extract ( I LOVE peppermint but you may want to add less at first. You can always add a drop or two later if there's not enough peppermint.)

  • Splash of water

 

1.       Put all ingredients into a high powered blender and blend.

2.       Taste test to see if you need more sweetener or mint and add accordingly.

3.       Enjoy! 

This recipe serves 1-2, but if you’re anything like me you won’t want to share! Lucky for me, my husband doesn’t like mint so I don’t have to!
