April's Green Smoothie Challenge: 5 Recipes to Get You Started
Just in time for spring, the gals from Simple Green Smoothies are launching their 30-Day Green Smoothie Challenge. To get you started, here are five smoothie recipes that pack tons of vitamins and minerals in to one delicious drink. So break out the fancy blender that’s been gathering dust in your kitchen cabinet and good luck with the challenge!

Maryanne from the Little Epicurean says that this green concoction wakes her up faster than a cup of coffee. We don’t know about that, but Miss Green Smoothie, as she playfully calls her creation, is full of healthful ingredients like coconut water, pineapple and mango. The baby kale provides the green, and because the leaves are so young and tender, they blend up into a truly smooth smoothie.

Some people are just not “smoothie people,” explains Natalie from Perry’s Plate, just before she goes on to share her favorite lunchtime smoothie. Her Green Smoothie That Actually Tastes Good gets a lot of its great flavor from almond milk and frozen pineapple, which sweetens up this drink so much that her daughters clamor for it. The drink is also packed with nutritious veggies like celery, cucumber, apple, orange and a couple of handfuls of greens, so it’s pretty darned healthy too.

Heather from Heather’s Dish shares her secret for “How to Make a Kale Smoothie That Doesn’t Taste Like Dirt.” She freezes the kale before blending it up with strawberries, pineapple, almond milk and yogurt. And she guarantees that her recipe works in any blender--no need to spend hundreds of dollars on a fancy model.

Carrian from Oh, Sweet Basil has come up with an edible prescription to slay all those winter colds before they get started. Her Cold-Buster Green Smoothie combines spinach, orange juice, orange peel, baby carrots, banana, apple and pineapple into a magical concoction that fights backs the common cold.

GI 365’s Kari offers up an easy, healthy recipe for her Holiday Detox Smoothie. Her secret concoction includes 16 fluid ounces of kombucha--she recommends ginger--as well as oranges, apple and 3 cups of spinach.
