I remember I used to make fun of my mother because it seemed we could not go out and eat anywhere that she didn’t leave with food on her shirt. I didn’t get it, why is she so messy? My mom and I went to a tea room one day and got a bowl of soup. I swear she did not take one bite that she didn’t drop some in her lap, on her shirt, or on the table. I laughed so hard, I mean it was every single bite. I kept watching, trying to figure out what she is doing wrong that she can’t seriously keep her soup in her mouth. I could not figure it out. I don’t have food all over me, why does she?
So as I have gotten older, I have noticed that I keep dropping food on my shirt. What the heck is going on here? I went just the other day to visit a friend that was in ICU at a local hospital. When I got out of my car, I realized that I had this long brown stain down the from of my shirt. I tried to clean it, which made it worse, so I just visited my friend and pretended it wasn’t there. I hadn’t even eaten that day, I had only had coffee. Oh my gosh, is that my coffee? How did I leave the house and not know? I was so embarrassed.
What is it with getting older and spilling your food? You would think that I have been eating so long, that I would be very experienced at this by now, so why am I seeing this trend? I guess it’s just one of those things that change that you just have to laugh about. Only it was funnier when I was laughing at my parents for it.
I went with my father last week to visit his sister in Arkansas, we all sat in the living room having dessert and talking. I looked over and my dad and his sister sat side by side with an unfolded napkin tucked into their shirt that came down to their waist almost. They looked like twins, it was so funny. I just laughed and said to myself, “I get it now.” lol
