This week on Episode 3 of the show Our East Wing, the hosts discussed healthy kids and eating. During the segment of the show where the hosts respond to reader comments from the blog, Michelle Obama Watch, the subject of "Food Deserts" popped up and the hosts had some interesting responses to reader assertions that there were some places where children could not get access to healthy food and some areas where it was not safe for children.
Christie, a mother of 2 isn't buying the idea that parents truly have no access to healthy foods. She notes the ability to grow your own foods as well as some healthy options available at gas stations and convenience stores. Tiffyany concurs noting that retailer like Walmart now carry organic foods.
Christie is incredulous about a readers claims that there are some places in the US where children can't exercise because its not safe. Christie places the onus on parents taking steps to insure that children get proper diets and exercise. Natomi dissents somewhat by noting that the United States is not a monolith and there may be some areas where healthy food and exercise are not options.
