Adding alkaline foods to your diet will boost not only nutrition, but help create optimal balanced health. Why? Because as North Americans, we are exposed to too much processed and refined foods which are actually acidic. The ideal pH level is between 7.35 – 7.45. You can buy pH testing strips at the health food store to check your pH levels first thing in the morning.
Anything below 7 is acidic, but you need to be careful about reaching high alkaline levels above 7.45. Either way, being too low or too high can indicate health issues.
Healthy eating is all about balance, and here are some suggestions to get more alkaline foods into your diet:
1. Drink lemon juice in a tall glass of room temperature water first thing in the morning. Oddly enough, lemons which are acidic, are very alkalizing for the body.
2. Eat more greens like kale, collards, swiss chard, celery, cucumber etc..
3. Pretty much all veggies and some fruits are alkalizing (blueberries and cranberries are actually acidic, who knew!)
4. Immerse a Santevia stick in your drinking water. Tap water has a neutral pH of 7, but the Santevia stick turns your water to an alkalizing 10! Great news for those not getting enough veggies in their diet. It does not mean you can eat crap and drink alkaline water though. Just saying!

Glowing Green Goddess Super Smoothie
Here is my favourite alkalizing smoothie. I have this for breakfast, snacks and sometimes, even lunch!
In a high powered blender (I like my portable Magic Bullet), whiz the following until creamy and smooth.
Handful of organic kale (about 1 cup packed)
Frozen banana (one half)
Frozen pineapple (3-4 chunks) (I love the Kirkland brand from Costco)
Frozen avocado (about one third)
1 Tablespoon of ground flax
1 Tablespoon of Hemp seeds
1 cup almond milk (Blue Diamond unsweetened is best)
