Accepting Challenges

November is a month of challenges for me. Like so many others, I've had some placed upon me and a couple I've sought out.

Life gives us challenges everyday. Things like managing the household budget, keeping the kids from killing each other or the dog, getting to work on time, or finding the last sheet of posterboard in town at 8:30pm for a school project that is "due tomorrow or I'm going to fail this class, Mom".

Somedays life hands us big challenges. A super storm of the century hits. An illness strikes. A job is eliminated. I was lucky to avoid the first two of those, however, the third one landed square in my lap.

As my twenty year career with one employer came to an end, I have the related challenges. I need to update my resume. I need to balance my budget. I need to apply for new jobs. I need to figure out what I want to be when I grow up.

As if those challenges weren't enough, I've been out there looking for and accepting other new challenges!

A friend invited me to join her in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). The goal is to write a novel of 50,000 words in thirty days. I accepted that challenge. I'll be writing an average of 1667 words every day towards this goal.

I learned from BlogHer that November is also National Blog Posting Month. The challenge of NaBloPoMo is to write a blog post every day of the month and post it on my cooking website. I've accepted that challenge.

Am I an over achiever? Am I afraid of having time on my hands? Am I in over my head?

Perhaps I am all three. But, I invite you to join me in the NaNoWriMo and NaBloPoMo challenges! I think they'll be educational and exciting. I hope to grow from the exercises of writing.

The challenges are out there, I'm willingly accepting two of them. That is probably my way of dealing with the challenge that was thrust upon me. A way of thumbing my nose at life and saying "I can do it!"

I've stocked up on caffiene loaded beverages and plugged in the laptop adaptor.  Life is an Adventure and I'm on board for November's adventure!
