8 Great Books To Give To Your Favorite Foodies

No matter how much time I spend looking up recipes online, I'm still happiest when I'm curled up in my favorite chair, flipping through a hard-copy cookbook for just the right recipe to make next. Cookbooks and food books are great gifts for anyone who loves spending time in the kitchen. Here are some of my favorite picks from books released by bloggers in 2012.

If there’s one hallmark of the work of Deb Perelman of The Smitten Kitchen, it’s that she refines and hones her recipes until they’re foolproof. The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook is the perfect guidebook for the home cook who wants to stretch their wings in the kitchen while ensuring they get consistent results every single time.

Catherine McCord of Weelicious takes her culinary school education and applies it to developing family-friendly recipes that are designed to turn kids into great eaters. Weelicious is the right resource for Moms who want to make sure their kids are getting plenty of delicious nutrition, but who don’t have tons of time to spend in the kitchen.

Kelsey Banfield of The Naptime Chef believes having a baby should not signal the end of elegant dining at home, and provides solid recipes accompanied by excellent tips on how to stage meal preparation. The Naptime Chef is the perfect gift for a new Mom who wants to recapture her cooking mojo.

Alana Chermila of Eating From the Ground Up believes there are plenty of foods, including ketchup and chicken nuggets, that can be made at home with fresh ingredients, rather than bought at the grocery store. The Homemade Pantry is an excellent gift idea for your favorite locavore, or for anyone trying to cut down on the number of processed food items in their diets.

Susie Middleton of Six Burner Sue refuses to relegate vegetables to the role of side dishes—she gives them a starring role on the plate. The Fresh and Green Table is the perfect gift for the aspiring vegetarian (or omnivore) seeking new ways to focus their meals on vegetables, rather than meat, poultry or fish.

From family food stories to recipes to techniques, Stephanie V.W. Lucianovic shares a wide range of food writing on Grub Report. Her first book, Suffering Succotash, is not a cookbook, per se, but does include recipes guaranteed to make even picky eaters consider rethinking what’s on their plate. It’s a wonderful gift for anyone you know who is a picky eater, or who just wants to understand more about the picky eaters in their life.

Genie blogs about gardening and food at The Inadvertent Gardener, and tells very short tales at 100 Proof Stories. She is also the Food Section Editor for BlogHer.
