The Best Fruit Smoothie Ever?

When I started this journey of finding the right combination of foods to make the perfect fruit smoothie, I tried many things and--yes--experienced some really bad smoothies. Yet, I'm so excited that I started this journey because I feel that I'm getting to the "perfect fruit smoothie" stage. Let’s set a basic foundation first.

To start the process, I had to decide on the basic ingredients that I wanted in every fruit smoothie that I made. These ended up being natural peanut butter, frozen fruits, sometimes veggies (more about this later) and soy milk. Once this was decided, I was then able to try out different recipes.

When it came to the fruit and veggies, I decided that I would use a smaller freezer container to divide up the fruit into ready-made portions and then freeze them. This allows your fruit to last longer, which is something I learned the hard way. I have had fruits and veggies spoil or go bad on me because I couldn’t use them quick enough.

Now for the ideal ingredients for the perfect fruit smoothie.

For my perfect and great tasting fruit smoothie, I use many of the following ingredients. I know that the title “fruit smoothie” doesn’t cover the veggies I use, but that’s OK because the meaning is still understood. Now for the ingredients.

Basics:

  • Soy milk
  • Natural peanut butter
  • Bananas
  • Strawberries
  • Cinnamon
  • Cayenne pepper
  • Honey
  • Crunch cereal (i.e., Grapenuts, Kashi GoLean Crunch cereal)

Alternative ingredients:

  • Blueberries (when in season)
  • Raspberries (when in season)
  • Spinach
  • Broccoli
  • Celery
  • Almonds (raw)
  • Apricots
  • Kiwi

Although I have tried other ingredients, I felt that since they didn’t work for me then I wouldn’t mention them on this list. However, I thought it would be great to share a few fruit smoothies:

Hopefully, these recipes will help you get started with creating your own perfect fruit smoothie. Keep in mind that some of these recipes may use dairy products, so if you need to substitute with nondairy, then checkout the article entitled, “Taste Test: Dairy-Free Milk Alternatives.”
