Well, America. The party’s about to get very interesting.
With Mitt Romney’s announcement on Saturday that Congressman and Financial Wiz Paul Ryan is to be his running mate in this election, conservatives like me around the country are turning cartwheels. In my mind, there could not have been a better choice.
We have all watched over the past months as the sitting presidents and his lackeys have berated Mitt Romney on every possible front. Mitt Romney is too rich. Mitt Romney was mean to his dog. Mitt Romney was too successful. Mitt Romney t shirts are made by non-union laborers. Mitt Romney speaks too boldly. (This from a campaign which has the nerve to suggest that because a man’s wife discovered she was ill and died from cancer FOUR YEARS AFTER HER HUSBAND LOST HIS JOB, somehow Mitt Romney is to blame.) Good grief.
With the addition of Paul Ryan to the ticket, the Republicans now have a plan. The Democrats don’t.
Each year the Congressional Budget Committee – which, by the way, Paul Ryan chairs – is required by law to produce a Federal Budget. Each year since Barack Obama took office, Paul Ryan and his committee have met their constitutional mandate by preparing and presenting a budget to congress. Each year, Democrat Senate Leader Harry Reid has refused to bring that budget to the floor for a vote in spite of the fact that it is his sworn constitutional duty. Why? Because Harry Reid and the Democrats can’t bring themselves to make hard decisions which might get them replaced when their seats come up for re-election.
Guess what, Harry? Your spineless lack of action will bring you down far faster than courage ever could. Americans like courage. Fortunately, Paul Ryan has demonstrated his and now he brings it to the Romney ticket.
Now, when Americans want to know what’s to become of us, Paul Ryan can point to his Pathway to Prosperity. Now, when employers want to know what their tax bill is going to be moving forward, Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney can say clearly 25% - period. What about Obamacare? Can you spell REPEALED? That’s what it’s going to be on day number one of a Romney/Ryan administration!
We will have tough days ahead, America. We have to face the fact that the people we’ve trusted to make our laws for 46 of the past 50 years – the Democrats – have failed us. They have dug us into a 16 TRILLION dollar hole and climbing out won’t be easy. We’ll each have to do our part, but at last there is an answer on the table. A solution emerges in the person of Paul Ryan whose financial genius is the perfect pairing for Mitt Romney’s business savvy.
There ARE better days America.
