Welcome to the BlogHer Book Club! I'm your host, Karen Ballum, though you might know me better as Sassymonkey. I've been BlogHer's Contributing Editor for books since 2006 and I've been lucky to do some pretty cool things here on BlogHer.com. I've interviewed authors, been a Cybils Book Awards judge, and simply had a blast talking about all manner of bookish things with you over the last five years. Being able to welcome you to the new BlogHer Book Club? That just takes the cake.
BlogHer's thrilled to be collaborating with Penguin Group USA to bring blogger reviews of great upcoming books, author interviews, book discussions and much more to our new BlogHer Book Club space. What's exciting about this partnership: BlogHer is paying writers to write balanced, editorial reviews of the BlogHer Book Club featured titles. Here's how it works: Every month, we'll be featuring two Penguin titles that we think will be of interest to you, our community. I will work with Penguin to determine the book review calendar -- the rest is up to us.
I will recruit reviewers from our list of excellent writers. For more on how to become a BlogHer Book Club reviewer, please check out our About the Book Club page. Each reviewer will receive a copy of the book and be paid to write and publish her editorial opinion of the book here for community discussion. We're excited about the diversity of opinions and perspectives we can bring to Penguin's list -- and we'll keep talking about other publisher titles, of course, in our ongoing BlogHer Book Chat group.
We're kicking off the BlogHer Book Club with Caleb's Crossing, the new novel from Pulitzer Prize-winning author Geraldine Brooks. Caleb's Crossing won't even hit store shelves until May. You are getting the scoop on it right here at BlogHer.com.
We'll be updating you with information about our next Book Club picks and more ways you can participate over the next month. We might even have a few surprises up our sleeves, so be sure to sign up for our new BlogHer Book Club Newsletter to stay on top of hot Book Club news.
Pull up a chair (a cozy reading chair of course) and get ready to read reviews from and talk books with bloggers just like you.
Happy reading, everyone!
