So, seriously, was I the only one who actually liked the HIMYM ending and series finale? I loved the show from the start, and being the brunt of my friend’s “Havvveee ya met Theresa?” jokes on many occasions, I always found the comedy to be hilarious. I also admired the writers for being able to weave in so many “inside jokes” as the storyline progressed.

If you haven’t watched the show or finale episode but are still reading this post, viewers find out the Mother of the title has been dead all along, and Ted is telling his kids the story of how he met her. But, at the end of the story, the kids call bullshit on their Dad, and say that the story is really about how in love he is with their Aunt Robin (who has been the main love interest of Ted from the start of the show) and that he wants to ask her out, but is not sure if they approve.

They totally approve, and encourage their Ted to go for it. So, yes in the end Ted ends up with Robin. If you’ve been watching the show, you likely already knew that was going to happen somehow. The chemistry between the two was always there, and you just knew they were meant to be together. Personally, I think it ended the way it was supposed to.

But, many fans of the show do not agree. They dislike that the Mother has been dead all along.

Not me.

I think the writers are skilled at taking on life issues, as they have in the past in dealing with Marshall’s dad’s death and Robin’s infertility. Life is not just fun and games. And, they did carried that through in the show to the end. With Barney’s unplanned child and the real emotion for Ted of loving someone, and her becoming sick and dying. And, while the question of dating again is always bound to come up for widows, when you have kids, I think it sometimes is a bigger issue.

So until the very end the writers were not afraid to use real life situations that make you think and experience raw emotions. Because, lets face it, we have all been there. We all know someone who has been through what Ted was going through, and have likely judged them for it, whether good or bad--and that is exactly what the public is doing with the show now because it touched on so many emotional strings.
