According to Maggie Haberman at Politico.com, this happened yesterday at a fundraiser for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid:
Then he [Reid] turned his attention to Gillibrand, saying something about how "many senators are known for many things," according to a source. He added, "We in the Senate refer to Sen. Gillibrand as the hottest member."
He also then discussed her knowledge of securities law as extremely deep, and suggested she was better on certain policy elements than other people, according to the sources.
Way to bury the lead, Reid!
As Brenda Daverin at Gather.com says:
Kirsten Gillibrand may be pleasant to look at, but that is hardly something one emphasizes about a US Senator. It carries the double weight of the sexism we are still not rid of as a culture. Whether Harry Reid's going to take it in the shorts politically on this one is hard to say, as it's early in the day yet. However, if he doesn't grovel and apologize for referring to a genetic fluke as her most important achievement in a long career, he will deserve to have Sharron Angle jump him for it in a debate.
Of course, Senator Gillibrand isn't unused to sexism. She was compared to Tracy Flick, the cutthroat schemer from the movie Election, during her senatorial race. She got the age-old "you can't do this job because you are a mom" bushwa when she announced her pregnancy.
But hey, at least she's a MILF.
What do you think about Reid's comments?
