Tonight will be the cruelest cut as two singers will be elminated and only three will make it to next week's finale. Why, The Voice PTB, WHY?

Each singer sung one song they chose and one chosen by their coach, but to be honest I lost track of which was which. Which is too bad, given some of the song choices were not so great.
Let's dig in!1. Team Blake: The Swon Brothers
"Turn the Page" by Bob Seger
No song selection issues here, this was the first of two smart choices. It showed a different side of the Swon Brothers, and it showed some depth. I'm not a huge Bob Seger fan, but this song was great. And they brought real, discernible emotion to their singing.
"Danny's Song" by Loggins & Messina
Showing versatility again, by playing the piano. This was lovely and touching. And by the end of last night they had demonstrted themsleves to be well-rounded artists, not one-trick ponies. And they had won me over.
Bottom line: The Swon Brothers won the song selection game last night, and I think it will keep them safe.2. Team Shakira: Sasha
"I Will Always Love You" by Dolly Parton (Whitney Houston version)
No, no, NOOOO. Oh, Audra McDonald-Beyonce (where my theater loves at, yo?) -- why, WHY would you pick this song? You looked beautiful (even if they inexplicably didn't show you much through the entire performance), and you sounded just fine. But come ON. This was dangerous to do. It's just such an iconic performance with which to compete, and Sasha did most of it pretty similarly to Whitney. OK, almost all of it. That isn't going to go well for her.
"Bad Girls" by Donna Summer
Another bad song choice. She has great vocals, and looked like she was having fun -- she even threw in some cheesy dance moves. But who gets excited to vote for the chick singing about being a hooker and doing cheesy dance moves? Not America, I don't think.
Bottom line: I think song selection just did Sasha-Olivia-Audra in, and I'm very sad about it.
"Clarity" by Zedd
Great song and song choice. Although the recurring top note was at the very top of her range and felt a little strained to me, in the end it just did not matter. She's got all the passion and intensity and emotion that some of these other gals (cough cough Danielle and Amber cough cough) haven't got the maturity to even know they're missing yet.
"Time After Time" by Cyndi Lauper
Great. What else is there to say? I'm a big Cyndi fan (and so are the Tony voters -- theater geeks in the house, what up????).
Bottom line: When Sasha-Beyonce gets booted for her non-bootylicious song choices, Michelle is the last woman standing for me.4. Team Blake: Danielle
"Please Remember Me" by Tim McGraw
Listen, I sure would like to say something different about these performances by Danielle. But she's gonna have to make me. Until then, here's the scoop: Very strong, beautiful, crystal clear vocal. Very bland performance. Shocking, right?
"Who I Am" by Jessica Andrews
Ibid. Or, well, maybe I'll refine it a bit: Sweet vocals, robotic performance. She didn't even seem to be particularly moved to sing to her crying mother and father, I mean...if that doesn't make your face move with emotion, what will? If she were a different age, I'd swear she'd had Botox. But no. Naturally youthful; unfortunately expressionless.
Bottom line: Yeah. And. That could be me writing about Carrie Underwood in 2006. She turned out OK. (And turned into a great all-around performer.)5. Team Adam: Amber
"Firework" by Katy Perry
Oh. Dear. Well that wasn't so good, was it? My own car theatrics confirm: This is a hard song to sing, so don't sing it if you ain't got it. She didn't have it. Strained. Off-key. And there was no joy in that performance whatsoever.
"Sad" by Maroon 5
Meh. A nice enough song, but after Amber's first performance, I couldn't really get it up to care about performance #2. I will be very shocked indeed if tonight isn't tough for Amber.
Bottom line: It really oughta be the end of her journey now.Bottom Line for the Two Eliminations:
Should be: Amber and Danielle
Will be: Amber and Sasha
But what do you think?
