The Unwitting Diplomat: NBA Star Dennis Rodman Meets with Korea's Kim Jong Un

Did you hear that former NBA star Dennis Rodman and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un are new BFFs? Everyone is shaking their head about the fact that Rodman (aka the Worm) is the first American to speak with the supreme leader - the master of a nuclear weapons platform that threatens the civilized world. While clueless about politics, Rodman managed to develop a rapport with the 30-year old leader when no U.S. diplomat could.

"There is nobody at the CIA who could tell you more personally about Kim Jong Un than Dennis Rodman, and that in itself is scary." -- Col. Stephen Ganyard, USMC (ret.)

Rodman told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos on "This Week" that Kim Jong Un just wants Obama to do one thing: Call him.

The athlete also offered Kim some diplomatic advice for potential future talks with President Obama. “[Kim] loves basketball. And I said the same thing, I said, ‘Obama loves basketball.’ Let’s start there,” Rodman said. [ABC News]

So it appears world peace could be as easy as an alley-oop.  Rodman, who was one of the NBA's all-time great rebounders and in North Korea with the Harlem Globetrotters for a youth basketball camp, reveals that even though Kim Jong Un loves power and control, he's still a great guy.

Take a look at the interview below and decide whether Rodman, whose post NBA fame includes appearing on Celebrity MoleCelebrity ApprenticeCelebrity Rehab, and Dr. Drew's Sober House, is at all qualified to weigh in on international diplomacy.

Call Me Maybe?

Probably not. White House press secretary Jay Carney denounced Rodman’s trip and gives a thanks-but-not-thanks response to Rodman’s communication brokering. The White House, Carney says, has its own “direct channels of communications” with Pyongyang.
