Summer TV is Gonna Rule So Hard. And Also? Vampires!

OK, I’ll admit it…TV and I have kind of been seeing other people lately. The only time I return to my beauteous LED is to watch Game of Thrones on HBO, which is ending soon for this season. (Did you see that last episode? WTF? But I digress.)

HOWEVER, you guys? TV is about to get ALL SORTS OF AWESOME in the next few weeks. Well, that is, if you're into the shows I'm into. And you should be.

I'll start with a new show starting on TNT - Falling Skies. Point No. 1: Stephen Spielberg is the executive producer of this show about surviving in a post-alien invasion world. It's like, The Walking Dead meets War of the Worlds. Point No. 2: The attractive Noah Wyle is the star. Now, I'm willing to forgive him for his The Librarian movie series and remember him more for his well-played role in ER…because this show looks SO GOOD. Falling Skies begins Sunday, June 19 at 9/8c on TNT.

This is where things get hairy. The show I've been waiting since FOREVER to return, HBO's True Blood, airs at the same time as Falling Skies. I know, I know…I have a DVR…but ugh. Really, networks? Anyway, True Blood returns for its fourth season and this time, witches are being thrown in the vampire/werewolf/faerie mix. And Gary Cole. (I know, right?) If you've never watched this show, please go and rent all three prior seasons, watch them this weekend and then start watching when the show begins again on June 26 at 9/8c on HBO. (And if you don't have HBO, make like besties with someone who does and watch it at their house.) However, if you're not into unique storylines, hot, non-sparkly vampire sex and tons of gore, then go ahead and skip this one. BUT YOU'LL BE SORRY. (For the record, I'm totally Team Eric. How could you not be?)

All right, the next summer show I'm pretty stoked about is the eighth season of Curb Your Enthusiasm on HBO. (Remember that bestie you secured to watch True Blood? Hang out when it's over because Curb is on immediately afterwards.) Anyway, this is another show that's been around a while, so I don't think I need to persuade you to watch it if you've seen it before. If you do need persuading, in this season, New York is an additional backdrop to Larry David's Los Angeles antics. (Win.) Also, Ricky Gervais. If you've never seen the show before, imagine Seinfeld…but on HBO. And so much uncomfortable: Larry David is the king. If you've never seen Seinfeld before and have no idea what I'm talking about…then I don't even know you anymore, internets. Curb Your Enthusiasm airs Sundays at 10/9c starting July 10.

The final show I cannot wait to begin is Louis CK's Louie, which is returning for its second season on FX this summer. Louie is definitely not for everyone. I've seen his live stand-up act a couple of times and he has mastered ridiculing his children and making fun of himself, with as many swears as possible. Louie is based off of his stand-up (a lot like Seinfeld was BUT I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO TELL YOU THAT, INTERNETS) and never fails to deliver hilarious situations with his children and his sad life. Louis C.K. stars (and writes AND directs) in this series, which airs Thursdays at 10:30/9:30c starting on June 23.

There you have it. For the record, there are quite a few other new and returning shows on television this summer, the majority of which are reality TV. (Personally, I've had more than enough of it.) So, if you need filler for any nights aside from Thursday and Sunday, there you go. Otherwise, tune in with me and we can totally gab about it on the Twitter! (I'm @jennamariebee.)
