Tis the season of holiday tidings and a huge part of the holiday season is the amount of packages that are delivered via UPS, Fedex or the post office. A week ago, Amazon's CEO, Jeff Bezos, announced a new method of delivering packages, via Drones.
As I watched Bezos talk about this new system like it's the next big thing since sliced bread, I had some nagging thoughts about this new venture. I understood that with this concept, packages will be delivered in a non-traditional way at any time of the day. The video of a drone delivering a package at someone's doorstep looks really cool and futuristic, but where's the social interaction?
I may be an exception, but I actually like going to the post office or UPS to send out packages and while the interaction I have with a FEDEX person is minimal, it's still interaction. Don't get me wrong, the concept of Amazon Prime Air Delivery Drones is cool, but I do feel that as we keep advancing the technology to satisfy the need for instant gratification, we may be losing the idea of human connection.
I'm a huge fan of technological advances and trying new gadgets as they become available to me, but when it comes to an invention that could decrease social interaction for the sake of convenience, then I would have to pass on it, at least for now. That's my view on this, what's yours?
