Granted, Simon Cowell and Will.i.am are pretty good at recognizing musical talent. These days American Idol vet Cowell is a judge on The X Factor, and he wants to team up with rapper Will.i.am to create an X Factor for Tech show. The show would identify the next Steve Jobs or Mark Zuckerberg. Or perhaps the next Bill Gates.
As for finding the next Steve Jobs, even Steve Jobs himself didn't do a perfect job of that.
Snark aside, an X Factor for Tech has a lot of potential to bring great young innovators and tech geniuses to the fore. As Will.i.am told The Sun,
“Singing and performance create a couple of jobs. But this will create lots. It’s about getting in touch with youth and giving them a platform to express themselves — whether that’s in science or mathematics.”
Will.i.am has tech cred to bring to the hunt for a new tech entrepreneur. Lately he's worked for Intel as the director of creative innovation.
As reality shows go, this one will be a cultural milestone in the sense that the culture of tech is rapidly becoming the mainstream culture for the entire U.S. Even Bravo is planning a tech reality show called Silicon Valley Start Ups.
Are you a fan of reality shows? Personally I can't stand reality shows. But I might have to watch this one. Why? To see what young innovators bring to the show and what they hope is the next big thing. To see what's possible and potential in the land of science and tech. And to see if there are any women on the show. There better be!
