Rick Santorum Drops Out of GOP Presidential Race

Rick Santorum suspended his presidential campaign in a press conference today, after taking the weekend off to spend with his three-year-old daughter. Bella, who has Trisomy 18, had contracted pneumonia and was released from the hospital Monday.

"We made the decision over the weekend that while this presidential race for us is over for us, for me, and we will suspend our campaign effective today, we are not done fighting," Santorum said to a press conference in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

Santorum's announcement makes front-runner Mitt Romney all but certain to become the GOP candidate for president; according to the Wall Street Journal, it marks "the unofficial end of the GOP race." Though Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul are still in the race, Gingrich on Sunday told Brit Home of Fox News that Romney will most likely be the Republican nominee.

Oh look, everyone on Twitter has figured out/been reminded that Rick Santorum is a totally ungracious clown.

what does it say that I'm too tired and overwhelmed to enjoy the flood of Santorum jokes in my twitter stream now?

— Jessica Pieklo (@Hegemommy) April 10, 2012

Every time Santorum says "Game on" it sounds like he's saying "gay mon." Just sayin'.

Hard to argue that the sweater vest is the biggest winner of the Santorum campaign.

To be fair, Santorum came a pretty long way for being basically a joke candidate. Gotta give him credit for that.
