Please Don’t Fire Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer

I pulled up a chair to watch the Democratic National Convention (DNC).  Not a chair like the old man’s at the Republican National Convention (RNC), but a chair fit for the person sitting in it.  As I sat in my chair, I engaged in the first speakers with great interests. I was unseated by the former Ohio Governor conveying a speech which brought me out of my chair.

Governor Strickland is a newcomer to my political knowledge.  I decided to learn more about the speaker who denunciated the patriotism of the Republican Nominee. As an educator, I reveled when I learned the governor passed a budget that protected education funding.  He improved teaching methods and student assessments to set high standards for Ohio’s children to make sure that students learn the critical skills necessary for success in the 21st century workplace and in higher education http://www.tedstrickland.com/primary-education/.  Strickland’s education reform plan was recognized by the Education Commission of the States, winning their innovation award for what they call “bold, courageous and nonpartisan new reform policies.” http://www.ecs.org/clearinghouse/83/81/8381.pdf.

During his speech, the governor accused Romney of lacking economic patriotism. He said: “So little economic patriotism that even his money needs a passport.  This statement brings listeners back to Romney’s wealth or blind trust overseas. “Mitt Romney is an outsourcing pioneer,” said Strickland.

When the former governor eluded that if Romney was Santa Claus, he would fire the reindeer and outsource the elves; I wondered: what would America be like without Rudolph at Christmas? How would Romney’s sleigh be guided by Rudolph’s nose if he fired him?   What about the children who has been nice all year, or even the naughty ones? If Romney fires Rudolph, then who will guide his sleigh?

Not only do all the reindeers love him, all of America loves Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer.  Rudolph is part of our history. Romney, if you become President or Santa Claus, please don't fire Rudolph!
