About a week ago, I described in one of my comments about a conversation with my lifelong Republican mom who lives in SW Virginia which had me picking my jaw up off of the floor in disbelief.
She had seen Palin's interviews with Charlie Gibson at ABC and decided, firmly decided to vote for...
Then, my Republican sister in the swing state of Pennsylvania? Told me the same thing.
Two Republican cousins and an aunt in the swing state of Florida? Ditto.
While rightwing pundits and bloggers have been declaring Palin the energy needed for McCain's ticket and crowing that "Democrats are only criticizing her because they're scared", I've been wondering if the energy that is creeping up on their numbers is negative energy.
So, I've been carefully watching and waiting.
- Five weeks ago, the St. Petersburg Times convened a group of Tampa Bay voters who were undecided about the presidential election. Their strong distrust of Barack Obama suggested it was a group ripe for John McCain to win over.
- Not anymore. The group has swung dramatically, if unenthusiastically, toward Democrat Obama. Most of them this week cited the same reason: Sarah Palin.
Seems as though my female relatives were the leading edge of a trend :)
