Oh Wow! Can I have daughter who grows up to be an uneducated tramp too!: a commentary on the new reality show Pretty Wild

Reality television hit a new low with the airing of E!'s "Pretty Wild". At first glance it's just another show about 3 young teenage sisters living and partying the night away in Hollywood ,which is predictable enough. But after watching the first 10 minuets I was floored at the attitude that these girls Mother, Andrea Arlington, has.

So to be fair let's be honest, when your young you do stupid things and say stupid things its part of being young; and granted this youthful stupidity does run on a sliding scale. Everyone has some kind of idiot behavior that they partake in when they are young. However, I am totally mind boggled by the manner in which these girls Mother opts to deal with her daughters. To top it off this woman "home schools" these girls so her example is just about all they have to look at. She designs the curriculum around the concepts from the movie "The Secret". I'm sorry but talk about setting your children up be total failures as adults. These girls, if their careers ever go anywhere, are going to get taken for everything and end up being one of those sad True Hollywood Story types so fast that it could be clocked with an egg timer. I simply do not understand why any Mother would want for her daughters what this women is giving to them and I simply refuse to belive that we as a society, even in Hollywood, have truly sunk that low.

Someone needs to explain to Mrs. Arlington that the poor decisions that she is making now for her children will negatively effect their lives forever. If she doesn't like that her daughter spends time with "the wrong crowd" then be a mother. Take the dame car keys, put her in her room, give her the opportunity at a real education and actually love your child enough to say NO. Mothers should want more for their children then they had for themselves so saying that "I was a wild child too" is crap. Take the time to realize that deductive reasoning is a skill, that reaches far beyond the reading comprehension assignments in english class; and cause and effect is a principal that applies to life not just science class. The lessons that a person learns through education are the key ingredients in making good decisions in life and you can't get any of that from making a poster board full of red carpet photos.

I'm not going to go and say the predictable statement of how we shouldn't glamorize the terrible display put forth by the family of Pretty Wild as it does provide something of value, it's a great example of what not to do. It shows us the viewer that regardless of having money, a modeling contract, good looks, and a designer purse that nothing replaces a parent that acts like a parent. I don't doubt that Mrs. Arlington cares about her daughters I'm sure that she does but I do question how she lets it take form. Much of the love that I see parents and myself give to their children often takes the path of most resistance on the part of the child. Their not going to like it, but parenting isn't easy because growing up is often just plain hard.
