The New Normal: Baby Clothes (review)

Starting episode three off, Bryan has apparently gone crazy for baby clothes and has become friends with Shania. David of course tells him that he needs to return all the clothes until they know for sure that everything is ok/healthy (damn you David for being the level headed one).

We then go to the Doctor's where David basically takes over telling Goldie what all they need to test for and my goodness there is a lot!

Meanwhile with Shania, she wears a "crop top" (which is just a top that is originally for babies) to school and catches the eye of a boy. Shania texts Goldie about her new friend (without seeing the top mind you) and mom being mom decides to go buy her clothes at the outlet mall. Bryan and David join her for the trip, Bryan is distracted by the discount baby clothes. They exchange loving talk, begin to kiss until a couple with a child tells them they need to stop what they are doing because this is a family store. Bryan defends his life to the father and the father in return says that he doesn't want his family/child exposed to their life. When Bryan tells him that they are about to be a family too, the guy repiles by saying that it's disgusting and he feels bad for the baby and the guy walks away from his family while Bryan has tears forming in his eyes.

At home Bryan is still extremely upset and David tries to tell him that he just needs to ignore him which Bryan doesn't feel like he should continue to ignore people. The couple have a fight over how to handle the situation until Bryan explains that he isn't crying over the situation but crying over the fact that what if that happened in front of their child...how do they project their child from hate.

Back at school, Jane goes to pick up Shania who is apparently making out with her new little friend in the closet where the kids keep all of their stuff. Jane being Jane takes Shania and her friend to a clinic to get birth control (no I am not making this up). The receptionist immediately tells her that she is just going to call the police.

Meanwhile, David and his Doctor friend are in line getting a smoothie where David tells him that they are about to hear the babies heartbeat for the first time. His friend being a Doctor of course tells him all the horrible things that could possibly happen and he warns David that he needs to remember that he is going in there being a father and not a doctor. While in line a guy with downs syndrome is in the front asking a bunch of questions annoying the guy behind David. The guy eventually gets mad and calls the other guy a retard, it pisses David off so he punches the loud mouth guy but the man with downs syndrome tells him not to fight his battles for him and calls him a fag.

At the doctors office David shows up while Goldie and Bryan are waiting for the Doctor. David tells them both what he did and he is clearly upset about the whole situation. He tries to avoid the situation until Goldie tells both of them that she heard what happened at the mall and that she should have said something to that guy for being ignorant and people don't see them like she does. The guys of course smile at the young woman, the Doctor comes in and we get to hear the heartbeat (cue tears in eyes)

Back at school, the children are there with their parents and talking with the teacher. The teacher tells them that she shouldn't have let Jane take the kids but the mom of the boy says that she is happy Jane took them because kids are learning about sex earlier and earlier and they were able to talk about sex. Jane tells Goldie that she needs to talk about Shania about sex but Goldie feels that she is too young (she is 9) but Jane is adament about needing to talk to her about sex. Goldie agrees that she will talk with her. Jane, Goldie and Shania show up at Bryan and David's house to return the baby clothes because they are not appropriate to wear. Jane gives Bryan and David a gift, baby clothes, the onesie says "Please Help Me" The guys ask them to stay for chinese food and Jane aks about why they haven't just ordered one of those chinese babies. Bryan and Jane say the same joke at the same time and just stare at each other, Bryan with a smirk on his face and Jane with shock on hers. She agrees to stay since the guys have wine but not before asking God to forgive her.

At the gym David is kicked out for assaulting the guy who was being rude (he isn't going to press charges and he just got engaged to his boyfriend so the guys bond over that). While leaving the gym David sees the cutest little fleece outfit for a baby. He comes home and tells Bryan that he was right and that he needs to let go of all the fear and bad parts. David shows him the fleece track outfit that he bought and tells him that no matter what, he knows that he needs to celebrate the wins because their child is going to have it tough by having two dads.

My Throught: I really really really love this episode and love that the show is really starting to take on a personality of its own. I have grown to love the characters of David/Bryan and I love Shania (she is the cutest little thing). I honestly didn't think that I would take to liking this show that much but I am pleasantly surprised by how it has really grown on me. Looking forward to next weeks episode where Shania starts the pregnancy cravings (fast food) and she may start dating.
