Nancy Lanza was not a monster

Nancy Lanza was not a monster.  I know that in my heart, even though I have never met her, or ever been to Connecticut.

I believe that Nancy Lanza deserves to be remembered as the 27th victim of the Newtown shootings, instead of immediately blamed for what happened

From what we do know about the Lanza family, Nancy seems to gone to heroic lengths to help her son.  She tried everything from public school, to private school, to homeschool, to early entrance to college for Adam.  Nancy taught her special needs son to talk and drive a car.  She encouraged his legal, law abiding interests.

I can’t be the only mom out there thinking “Wow!  Nancy Lanza did all that?  She must have been awesome!  If my [fill in the blank] son, daughter, sister, brother, uncle, friend with Asperger’s Syndrome or Autism Spectrum Disorder learned to talk and drive a car, it would be my dream come true.”

1 out of every 88 children born these days has ASD.  It takes love, guts, and stamina to be an Autism Mom, even though violence has nothing to do with ASD.

Parenting a child with ASD isn’t easy.  Let’s not forget any of that; and let’s not blame the mother.
