(Prompt) How much of the day are you plugged in? Do you consciously set aside offline time, or does it happen whenever it happens?
A lot. I blog. I pin. I tweet. I post and discuss on Facebook. A fair amount of it is work related currently. I am redesigning my website and working on designs for new business cards and other business stationary. I am also fulfilling this month long challenge of blogging at least once every day for the month of November. Then there are a few games that I play on my iPad, but nothing that is too much of a time-suck.
I do not specifically set aside offline time. I am currently reading a book and have a few more ready once I have finished it. I get off the computer/iPad to do things with the family and with friends, so I am not ALWAYS plugged in.
(Prompt) Your life without a computer — what does it look like?
Sad. Ha, no. It is frustrating at times. Not getting to check my email on a daily basis causes a pile up of unreturned messages and that is extremely frustrating. I like to try tackling emails right when I get them, otherwise they all seem to backlog and then I have to spend a whole Saturday to return them all.
I do not have TV service or a subscription to a daily newspaper or gazette, so I am kind of cut off from the rest of the world if I am not at least listening to NPR in the car. I use the Interwebs to keep up with local, national, and global news, as well as simple things like weather.
Other than stressing about the amount of information and emails that I am missing, me without a computer is just me without a computer. I read, write, play games, talk, drink tea, eat food, snuggle with friends, have sex, and live life in all other ways — I just do not do anything on a computer.
I do not know that it is super important to strive to not be on the computer. I am young enough that I grew up with a computer and being plugged in. Social media has become such a huge part of day to day life and the worlds of education and business. I do not feel guilty or bad about using technology to further my life, business, and knowledge base.
