Kumar Calls & Empty Chairs: Day 1 of the DNC in Tweets

Happy #EmptyChairDay!

If you don't know what on Earth that means, here's the quick recap: Clint Eastwood's speech on the last night of the Republican National Convention last week to an empty chair -- which immediately became known as Invisible Obama -- spawned a new photo meme (#Eastwooding), and prompted the president himself to tweet last week:

This seat's taken. OFA.BO/c2gbfi, twitter.com/BarackObama/st…

— Barack Obama (@BarackObama) August 31, 2012

But on the first day of the Democratic National Convention, conservatives took to Twitter with photos of empty chairs to illustrate Eastwood's point -- that they believe Obama is not filling the presidential seat properly.

I woke up feeling some fear about going to DNC, it's so busy & our politcal climate is so nasty. So I wrote out my prayers, and it helped.

Conservatives are asking Ronald Reagan's question from 1980, asked again by Paul Ryan in his speech to the Republican National Convention last week: Are you better off than you were four years ago? And people from all perspectives are answering:

Since Obama Took Office, The Number Of Americans Receiving Food Stamps Has Increased From 31.9M To 46.5M – A 45% increase. #AreYouBetterOff

Watching From Afar

While the rest of us are following along in social media and the news (or, if you're Kal Penn, on the phone with the President):

Ironic: Democrats start their national monstrosity on #LaborDay—inside a stadium (owned by a 'bailed-out' bank) w/ no Union workers #DNC2012

I enjoy this. RNC: "The RNC will respond nightly to DNC speeches with press conferences at their headquarters at the NASCAR museum."

Um, James Taylor is performing and Jimmy Carter is speaking at #DNC2012 -- *which* party is stuck in the 20th century?
