At the intersection of Head & Desk

WTF? Seriously, what the everlasting Fokk? In what universe is shutting down the government a good idea? Can the current GOP wackadoodles dragging their party under water not see this will be the shark they jump? Remember Newt Gingrich pulling this stunt in 1995/1996? It handed Clinton his 1996 re-election. If I were still a Republican I would be having a conniption about this stupidity on several levels, not least of which was the damage it was doing to my “team”, but since I am now Lefty McLeft Mayor of Leftville my hissy fit shall be reserved for the fact that the Average American will be suffering for this bullshit, not Congressional Dumbfokks.

How bad? Well, for one thing soldiers will be “paid in IOUs” and “changes of station would be delayed, medical offerings would be scaled back, facility and weapons maintenance would be suspended and most civilian employees would be furloughed until appropriations are available.” Congressional Cuntmonkeys, in contrast, will still get their big fat checks and benefits. Way to support the troops asshats!

“But”, you may ask, “aren’t both sides to blame in the shutdown?” Nope. The Republicans are the ones bound and determined to shoot the government in the kneecap to keep from having to run a three-legged race. My proof? The sumbitches in the GOP just “included a so-called "conscience clause" in the government funding bill in a plan they approved early Sunday … The measure would allow employers and insurers to opt out of providing health care services that they find morally or religiously objectionable. The addition reignites the debate over a portion of the health care reform law that requires most insurers to cover women's preventative health care, including contraception. CNN reports that the provision would allow them to opt out of coverage for the next year.”

If they think the Democrats even have an option of passing that, even if they were willing to cave on the ACA (which they aren’t), the Grand Old Party has been smoking crack.

And the ironic icing on this shitcake? “The Republicans want to defund Obamacare in exchange for funding the government. But the health care act at the center of this storm would continue its implementation process during a shutdown. That's because its funds aren't dependent on the congressional budget process.”

So why all the grandstanding by the Right trying to force a delay in the ACA? Because both sides know Obamacare is going to work. This will make for an ugly election season for the Republicans in 2014. If they can delay it for a year, then the glory of the ACA won’t be apparent until 2015 – after the midterm elections. Then they’ll just pick another dead horse to beat in the 2016 elections, ignoring the working ACA which they will not call Obamacare after everybody sees it working.

Basically, the ‘fiscal conservatives’ Right Wingnuts are not only willing to let soldiers go without pay to try to get some leverage on the next two elections, they are also willing to burn the BILLIONS that the shutdown will cost. “In 1996, the Office of Management and Budget tallied the two major shutdowns of the decade at about $1.4 billion. Adjusting for inflation would bring that total to more than $2 billion in today’s dollars.”

Even Mammon doesn’t know whether to laugh or cry at this garbage.
