I am a fan of life. Here are some of my favorite things, in no particular order.
© The Atlanta Braves: Come on, they’re the Braves! And they have Chipper Jones.
© “Terminator” movies, especially the first one: a lifetime of love in just one night juxtaposed with the end of the world as the machines take over. What’s not to love?
© Epic movies like “The Last of the Mohicans,” “Troy,” and “The Last Samurai”: Big themes! Love, honor, revenge, immortality, the last of a breed.
© Robert Redford: not in the movie about sleeping with a woman and giving her a million dollars. It’s not his best work. “Jeremiah Johnson,” “Three Days of the Condor,” “The Way” *sigh* “We Were.”
© The TV shows “Justified” and “Project Runway”: Clever lawman with several relatives who are criminals in his jurisdiction. Sewing outrageous clothes in response to outrageous challenges. I like them because they’re original – Justified has really good bad guys, and PR has very little of the reality TV backbiting and sniping – it’s all about the clothes!
© And while we’re talking clothes: I’m a fan of fashion and always have been! You wouldn’t know it to look at me since I rarely wear anything cool or outrageous – jeans, black pants, t-shirts, jackets. But I read VOGUE every month, and have for many, many years.
© Zombie movies, and especially the TV show “The Walking Dead”: Zombies! What a metaphor for the soullessness of our modern culture!
© Dessert: enough said.
© Patricia Cornwell novels: Kay Scarpetta is an amazing creation – a brilliant woman! She needs a little humor, though.
© Stephen King novels: Yes, they can be gory, but King has some serious themes running through his work – how the things we want destroy us, the hypocrisy in much modern religion, narrow-mindedness, life after death, and best of all – what will the end of the world look like?
© Pecans: Come on, I’m a pecan farmer!
My list of faves goes on and on. More to come!
