With all the news about spring blockbusters -- I'm looking at you Iron Man 3 and Star Trek Into Darkness -- I had kind of forgotten that there was a new Hunger Games movie on the horizon. Sure, Catching Fire isn't out until November but this is the time when they start releasing teaser trailers and ramping up our expectations. That's exactly what the trailer they premiered during the MTV Movie Awards did.
That is a totally squee-worthy trailer. Katniss and Peeta! Katniss and Gale! Katniss and Haymitch! Katniss and Prim! Yes, there's a lot of Katniss I am having all the squees. Isn't Donald Sutherland fabulous as the diabolical President Snow?
We also get to see that things are not as Katniss thought they would be. She thought that after the Hunger Games she'd be able to return home and go on with her life in peace. She'd accomplished what she set out to do -- she saved Prim.
Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson in Lionsgate's "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire"
Katniss doesn't realize that she's set something much bigger than herself in motion. She and Peeta discover early in the Victory Tour just how much bigger things are when a riot ensues. President Snow wants nothing to do with a potential uprising and will do everything he can to do squash it. Who will he squash in the process? And what will Katniss do when the lives of the people she loves are threatened once again?
I wasn't planning to re-read Catching Fire until this fall, but if they keep releasing teasers like this I'm not sure I'll be able to wait that long.
What did you think of the new Catching Fire trailer?
