Every year when the MTV Video Music Awards roll around, I get excited to go. And every year, my husband groans and rolls his eyes. It's true, we're decades beyond the target demographic for the VMAs, and we never know all the performing or nominated musical acts. But it's a fun evening, with great people watching, so we make it almost every year. My husband produces multiple television shows for MTV, and we usually have decent seats. This year, getting to bring a few extra family members along made it really fun to witness through fresh eyes. Here's how the evening went, as I tweeted and instagram'd my way through.
The #VMAs love a green laser show.
Lots of glow-in-the-dark happening. Lots of girls in shoes that will make them cry later. #VMAs
There's a guy next to me that is so into the music that I fear for our safety. It's not my husband. #VMAs
Dwight Howard gets The Gorillas first cheer of the night. Like, really loud. With clapping. #VMAs
I feel sorry for Miley Cyrus' hair. #VMAs
Strangely diggin' the lips wearing garter belts. Good energy, those lips. #VMAs
Noticeably less cheering for Chris brown than for others. #VMAs
Theyre changing up the whole stage. How they pull this off always amazes me. #VMAs
The stage manager from The Gorillas show Ridiculousness just ran by stage managing away. Tough job, he's awesome. #VMAs
No one can sing like Alicia Keys. Insane. #VMAs
Did you watch the show? What was your highlight?
