Consumed with the children in Connecticut, I dreamt about this tragedy and visions of dead children in a classroom.  Twenty years ago, I substituted taught children this age. They’re vulnerable, innocent and died knowing an adult (whom children depend on) willfully hurt them… fatally.  Six and seven year olds first years with school and socialization.  I suppose these children had nothing to do with the killer and everything to do with his issues.

Less than twelve days before Christmas, the most joyful holiday of the year will not be so joyful. The Grinch stole Christmas from this town. The Grinch is attempting to steal Christmas from America. As I deck my tree with bells of holly, as I think about the children who are at the age to receive lots of toys, unlike my 15 year old daughter, even if they were naughty; I think about the parents who don’t give a darn about Christmas now but about the safety or the loss of a child or children who attend Sandy Hook Elementary school. I think about the unspeakable grief of arriving to the school and to the firehouse and their child is not there but amongst the carnage. I think about how these parents will recover.

What about the surviving children? I can imagine that PTSD does not only affect soldiers and veterans.

The President, in his remarks to America stated “there is not a parent who doesn’t feel the same overwhelming grief as I do.” He is correct.  His speech was emotional, but at this point his tears aren’t good enough. Policies are… both mental health and gun policies.

Senator Dianne Feinstein's (D-Calif.) met with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to discuss a new and very comprehensive "assault weapons" ban. According to a ShootingWire.com article, Feinstein's rumored "assault weapons" bill "would ban pistol grips and 'high‑capacity' magazine.

But just wait one minute; the National Rifle Association is our country's biggest defender of the Second Amendment. In a recent article on its web site, the NRA wrote: … your fellow NRA members are working all across the country. ... An anti-gun Supreme Court, a U.N. Arms Trade Treaty, and a sweeping gun ban aren't just a possibility in a second Obama term. They're a near certainty. http://home.nra.org/#/nraorg/gallery/4. They fear a gun ban.

In another one of their article:  It appears that the gun control supporters have dropped the camouflage and have once again started working to further their gun control agenda.  And the NRA will once again stand in their way.

In response to the children’s carnage, Senator Feinstein said: “As I have said many times before—…weapons of war don’t belong on our streets or in our theaters, shopping malls and, most of all, our schools. “I hope and trust that in the next session of Congress there will be sustained and thoughtful debate about America’s gun culture and our responsibility to prevent more loss of life. ”

In the wake of the carnage of children still lying dead in a school house as I write this blog; just like tears, a debate is not good enough.  The NRA will have the rest of us to reckon with because gun control is not a near certainty but a certainty.
