Bruce Springsteen talks life and music career with Stephen Colbert

Bruce Springsteen has made the media rounds promoting his upcoming biography, Born to Run. This past Friday night, celebrating his 67th birthday, Springsteen sat during the four segments of the Late Show with Stephen Colbert to talk about his 50-year music career, life and the current state of politics.

During the interview, Springsteen talked about the music that shaped his childhood. As fitting as it is, sitting right inside the Ed Sullivan Theater at the same venue his 7 year-old eyes first saw Elvis perform on television. "At 7, I don't know how much of a life I had to change, but whatever I had it struck me right away and I got my mother and we ran down to the store the next week and we rented a guitar," Springsteen tells Colbert.

A few years after that, that moment would repeat once again when the Beatles took the United States by storm.

The rest of the interview dug into other moments of Springsteen’s life, including growing up Catholic, his relationship with his father, opening up about love and his struggle with depression and the notoriety of selling out shows around the world.

On a fun note, Colbert asked Springsteen to name his top five favorites songs, which he responded with “Born to Run”, “The Rising”, “Thunder Road”, “Nebraska”, and “Racing Through the Streets.”
