If you hear a voice within you say "you cannot paint," then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced. - Vincent Van Gogh
I know that drawing and painting are not among my God-given talents... in the same league as driving. You know, when God showers his blessings... we just can't have everything. However, practice and persistence have an amazing ability to overcome all types of shortcomings. And God rewards those who persevere...
Armed with my ultra fab sketch pad and my charcoal pencil, I had my introduction to the world of basic sketching. I sat down with some real artists and tried to copy what they're doing. I wanted to use the pastels thinking that my work will be at par with theirs if I use colors. Pastels are not for beginners... I was told. Hmmmph!!! How can they be so selfish? Hehehe!!! Ok, this is my first encounter with the sketchpad.
I patiently sat through the lesson and did my first sketch of our nude model... how can they be so inconsiderate, giving us newbies a very complicated subject... I was requesting for a ball as subject but they just laughed it off. We were taught how to do the measurements... oh that's easy if I'm working with a graphing paper maybe. My first attempt yielded a girl with a very long torso who looked like a creature from outer space. Never give up, that's my motto!!! Next attempt, I did get the right figure but the arms will rival that of a sumo wrestler.
What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?
Our greatest glory consists not in never failing, but in rising every time we fall.

Am I giving up? Absolutely not!!! My secret dream is to be able to bring my sketchpad in Starbucks and look like a real artist (or maybe pretend to be one!!!) doing my sketches...that'll be so cool, don't you think? Moleskine have sketchpads...then I'll be in the same league as Van Gogh, Picasso and Da Vinci... this is super!!!
Dream big... why not a Leah F. Taas moleskine sketchpad to be exhibited at the National Gallery in London or at the Museum of Modern Art in New York... oh well, I'd be more than happy (ecstatic, really!!!) if my works will find home even at our local museum in Manila. Hehehe!
Soon... just give me time guys! Hmmmm...another 20years maybe. Hehehe! (or can I just concentrate on abstract... I think I have the talent for that!)
