Baseball Love

When it comes to sports, baseball rules our house. Yes, we love other sports. My husband enjoys pro football, and I can’t get enough of college basketball, especially my Kansas Jayhawks. However, come spring, our focus is purely on the national pastime, baseball.

Baseball LoveThe sport plays a big role in our lives. My husband and I spend many summer nights watching baseball games on T.V.; mainly my team, the St. Louis Cardinals, much to his chagrin (he is a Brewer’s fan). Many of our conversations revolve around baseball: the standings, different players, and events surrounding the sport.

Our oldest, Ginny, posing at the baseball game. She loves her Cardinal’s shirt!

As I mentioned in an earlier post, we went to a Cardinal’s game on Father’s day. Despite it not being his team, my husband enjoyed the day because it was a baseball game. We hope that by bringing our girls to the games, they will also develop a love, a passion, for the sport. Only time will tell.

Now, while we have a love of baseball in common, we don’t share a love affair for the movies. I love them! I love most of them, actually; however, my husband does not really enjoy most movies. One type of movie I have noticed that he does enjoy are sports movies, particularly baseball movies! I discovered that when we were dating.

My husband and I were in a long-distance relationship until we got married. We sometimes had movie dates over the phone. We would pick out a comedy and watch it at the same time as we held the phone to our ears. Cheesy? Maybe, but it worked for us. One such movie that we watched as we courted was Fever Pitchwith Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore. We both laughed a great deal, and my husband enjoyed the baseball subplot.

Since that time, we have watched many baseball movies, Bull Durham, Trouble With The Curve, Mr. 3000, and Field of Dreams, to name a few. One thing I love about Netflix is that I have access to even more baseball movies or programs. Right now, they are showing Ken Burn’s Baseball, which I highly recommend. Other baseball films to watch now on Netflix are A League of Their Own, Major League, The Bad News Bears, and the documentary Knuckleball.

Disclosure: I’m a member of the Netflix #StreamTeam which means that they pay for the streaming service in exchange for me posting once a month about the service. All opinions are my own.

What are some of your favorite baseball films?
